Royal Scotland Up Close: Glimpse the lifestyle of the Royal family, past and present. Visit Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother and fully open to the public, and Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside (open from Easter until 31st July, before the Royals arrive for the summer). Royal Deeside is one of the shorter private multi day tours we offer, perfect for a two-day escape from Edinburgh.
Scotland’s Most Spectacular Ruin: Stand on the clifftops at Dunnottar Castle near Aberdeen, where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hidden from Oliver Cromwell and his marauding troops.
History That Shaped Nations: Visit Arbroath Abbey, where the Scottish Declaration of Independence was crafted and signed in 1320—much of it later echoed in the American Declaration of Independence 456 years later.
Breathtaking Highland Scenery: Travel through the Cairngorms National Park and the Spittal of Glenshee, finishing with Stirling Castle and the amazing Kelpies on the way back to Edinburgh.
Pick-up from your Edinburgh hotel or Edinburgh Airport. We cross the Queensferry Crossing and head to the beautiful medieval town of Falkland, made famous in the Outlander TV series where it doubles as Inverness.
We then cross the Tay Bridge to Dundee, visit Glamis Castle and continue to Arbroath and its Abbey. The day ends at one of the most spectacular ruins in Scotland—the magnificent Dunnottar Castle.
Fun Fact: The Scottish Declaration of Independence was crafted and signed in Arbroath Abbey in 1320. Much of it was ‘copied’ into the American Declaration of Independence 456 years later!
We head through Ballater and Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms National Park to Balmoral Castle (open from Easter to 31st July), then over the Spittal of Glenshee for lunch in Blairgowrie.
On to Stirling Castle, arguably Scotland’s most important stronghold, which knits the Highlands and Lowlands together. As we head towards Edinburgh, a wonderful last stop at the amazing Kelpies.
