MULTI DAY TOUR EXAMPLE
9 Day Tour Trossachs, Oban, Isle of Skye, Inverness and St. Andrews
DAY 1
Edinburgh to Callander
After departing Edinburgh we stop off for a quick photo stop at the Stunning Forth Bridges, a World UNESCO Heritage site in the ancient port of South Queensferry.
Heading North, over the Bridge, we can take in the stunning Medieval Village of Culross (Outlander was filmed here ), on our way past Stirling to Doune Castle. (Monty Python, Game of Thrones and Outlander filmed here, as well as ‘Outlaw King’ and ‘Ivanhoe’).
More can be fitted in the day depending on timings.
DAY 2
Trossachs Trail & Whisky
Today, we venture into the the amazing Trossachs Trail and all of its treasures including the wonderful Dukes Pass, mountain drive. This day may be as relaxing or as busy as you wish.
At Loch Katrine, you may wish to hire bikes for a very safe ride on a traffic free zone around stunning Loch Katrine, there are all sorts of bikes from Electric to tandem. Alternatively, or as well, you may wish to climb a wonderful small mountain, Ben An.
About an hour ascent and again down…views are spectacular.
We then head into the pretty town of Callander, here you may partake in a very entertaining ‘Whisky Tasting Masterclass’. If you don’t like Whisky, it’s just because you haven’t found yours yet. You do not choose the Whisky…the Whisky chooses you! A quick photo op at Doune Castle, this castle was used in TV/Movie productions such as Outlander (Castle Leoch), Game of Thrones (Winterfell), Monty Python & the Holy Grail, and Outlaw King as well as many more.
DAY 3
Trossachs to Skye/Lochalsh
Heading North into the wild Highlands, there will be plenty of time for photo opportunities and short walks. Through Breadalbane and the sweeping remoteness of Rannoch Moor and the inspiring Glencoe.
We follow rthe route of the Jacobite Express at Fort William to Mallaig, through some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.
We view the magnificent Glenfinnan viaduct before boarding the ferry, time permitting we will take you to the most stunning white sandy beach where ‘Local Hero’ was filmed with Burt Lancaster.
A ferry then takes you ‘over the sea to Skye’ (Only for 30 mins as we will be overnighting on the mainland…it makes sense to me 🙂
* Note: The Jacobite Express is the ‘Hogwarts Express’ in the Harry Potter Movies.
DAY 4
Skye Day Tour
There are so many thing to see and do on the Isle of Skye that it would be impossible to see all of the great sites. The island has a coastline 400 miles long, highlights include, the Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr, The Fairy Pools, Neist Point and much more…
Your guide will chat to you on tour about how to get the best from your time there.
DAY 5
Skye to Inverness ( Via Loch Ness )
In the morning we enjoy some of the magnificent Skye iconic scenery
Our first port of call will be one of the most hotographed buildings in Scotland, Eilean Donan Castle , 27 movies filmed here including ‘Highlander’ and ‘Goldeneye’).
Lunch in Fort Augustus followed by a gentle Loch Ness cruise (optional) or if you feel up to it, an exhilirarting ‘fast rib’ boat ride!
A lovely walk on historic and stunning invermorriston bridges before overnighting in Inverness.
DAY 6
Inverness to Edinburgh
Our first stop today is Culloden Battlefield…last stand for the Jacobites, and defeat for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746. Ancient history now with a visit to the amazing tombs and standing stones of Clava Cairns (4500-5000 years old)
Heading down country we stop at the Newtonmore reconstructed village from the 1700’s (Outlander filmed here ).
After lunch a wander through Scotland’s tall tree country to an amazing waterfall.
St. Andrews Circa 6pm
DAY 7
St. Andrews & Fife
In the morning we take a walk into St. Andrews Old Town and perhaps the Castle which was infamous during the reformation period. A wee stroll on the Old Course, and perhaps a game on the ‘Himalayas’ course.
Fife is famous for its quaint fishing villages of Crail and Pittenweem. We make our way around the coast to see the home of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ . Back to Edinburgh via the stunning Medieval town of Falkland (Inverness in Outlander).
DAY 8
Edinburgh, Old & New
Today we will give you the best of both worlds….at your own pace.
In the morning, we’ll take you to some special places that the toursits don’t see (we keep them for ourselves)…then after lunch in the Oldest pub in Scotland (1324) a gentle stroll around the old town. If you are feeling energetic, climb the extinct volcano, Arthurs Seat!
A walk around the mystical and magical Old Town
Fun Fact: The Stories of Jeckyle & Hyde, Robinson Crusoe and Harry Potter were all born in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
DAY 9
Free Time in Edinburgh
We can arm you with a multitude of things to do here, or we can organise a day tour from the city to perhaps the Scottish Borders or an Outlander Tour.
This Tour Can Be Customised To Suit Your Preferences
A fabulous tour for the Avid Outlander fan. This tour can be done in reverse order.
Overnighting in the Trossachs town of Callander is so close to where most of the outdoor scenes in season 5 were filmed in Callander Woods! Our second night needs no introduction, Inverness!
Our third night is in Highland Perthshire.
If Mrs Bairds BB is available (Covenanter Hotel)…we can change the tour to suit!
