10 Day Tour of Inverness, Orkney Isles, partial NC500, Isle of Skye and the Trossachs.

DAY 1

Edinburgh to Inverness

After collecting you from your Edinburgh Hotel we head from one UNESCO World Heritage site to another…the amazing Forth Bridge.  

Our first Port of Call would be for a beautiful shork hike in Scotlands ‘big tree’ country to a stunning waterfall followed by Lunch in the Spa town of Pitlochry

As we get close to Inverness, there are two ‘must see places, Clava Cairns (5000 year old Standing Stones & Tombs) & Culloden Battlefield 1746

DAY 2

Inverness to Orkney

Head up and hug the dramatic North East coast and Old Pulteney Distillery in Wick.

View the incredible Duncansby Head (Marvellous sea stacks)

and spend time at John O’Groats (Most northerly inhabited part of mainland UK

* 1.30pm pm Ferry from Gills Bay to St,. Margarets Hope, Orkney (1 hour crossing)

Shortly after arriving on Orkney, we visit the Italian Chapel, built by Italian POW’s in the 2nd World War.  This was a concession given to the Italians as a thankyou for helping construct the defences of Churchills Barriers.

DAY 3 & 4

Orkney Day Tour

We visit the magnificent Maes Howe, a 5000 year old Neolithic house. The entrance is a small tunnel type corridor (not suitable for bad backs.) we then head of to two sets of standing stones, including the biggest stone circle in Europe, the Ring of Brodgar.   The venerable neolithic township of Skara Brae is next, a collection of houses unearthed by a great storm.

We can also take a lovely walk along the wild and open Yesnaby Cliffs.

Free time late afternoon in Kirkwall.

DAY 5

Overnight Plockton

Plockton is the most beautiful fishing village in the West Highlands (according to the writer ) . Well served with great restaurants but need to be booked in advance.

FUN FACT:  The TV series ‘Hamish Macbeth’ & the 1973 cult movie ‘The Wicker Man’ was filmed here!

DAY 6

Small group tours of isle of skye scotland

Skye Day Tour

There are so many thing to see and do on the Isle of Skye that it would be impossible to see all of the great sites. The island has a coastline 400 miles long, highlights include, the Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr, The Fairy Pools, Neist Point and much more…

Your guide will chat to you on tour about how to get the best from your time there.

DAY 7 & 8

Trossachs Trail & Whisky

Today, we venture into the the amazing Trossachs Trail and all of its treasures including the wonderful Dukes Pass, mountain drive. This day may be as relaxing or as busy as you wish.

At Loch Katrine, you may wish to hire bikes for a very safe ride on a traffic free zone around stunning Loch Katrine, there are all sorts of bikes from Electric to tandem. Alternatively, or as well, you may wish to climb a wonderful small mountain, Ben An.

About an hour ascent and again down…views are spectacular.

We then head into the pretty town of Callander, here you may partake in a very entertaining ‘Whisky Tasting Masterclass’.  If you don’t like Whisky, it’s just because you haven’t found yours yet.   You do not choose the Whisky…the Whisky chooses you!  A quick photo op at Doune Casstle, this castle was used in TV/Movie productions such as Outlander (Castle Leoch), Game of Thrones (Winterfell), Monty Python & the Holy Grail, and Outlaw King as well as many more.

DAY 9

Trossachs to Edinburgh

In the morning we take a walk into St. Andrews Old Town and perhaps the Castle which was infamous during the reformation period.  A wee stroll on the Old Course, and perhaps a game on the ‘Himalayas’ course.

Fife is famous for its quaint fishing villages of Crail and Pittenweem. We make our way around the coast to see the home of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ . Back to Edinburgh via the stunning Medieval town of Falkland (Inverness in Outlander).

DAY 8
