Iconic Outlander Filming Locations: Follow in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire at Lallybroch (Midhope Castle), Blackness Castle (Fort William), Linlithgow Palace (Wentworth Prison) and Doune Castle—Castle Leoch, ancestral home of Clan MacKenzie. If you can only spare a weekend, this is the shortest of our Outlander-themed private multi day tours.

Scenes You’ll Recognise Instantly: Visit Drummond Castle Gardens (the Palace of Versailles), stand in the dock at Tibbermore Church where the witch trial was filmed, and see the guest house in Falkland where Frank saw the ghost of Jamie.

Overnight in Callander: We overnight in the Trossachs town of Callander—close to Callander Woods, where practically all of the outdoor scenes in season 5 were filmed—so we can fit in as many locations as possible.

Completely Flexible: This tour can be taken from Edinburgh or Glasgow with slight adjustments. If there are any locations not in the itinerary, we can adapt, time permitting.

Tour Description

Day 1: Lallybroch, Castle Leoch… and More!

Our first port of call for a photo opportunity is Hopetoun House, home of the traitorous Duke of Sandringham in the series. Moving on in the same estate is Lallybroch (Midhope Castle). It is a ruin and you can’t get inside, but it’s easily recognisable—and in the grounds, we’ll guide you to where Red Jamie hid from the Redcoats.

Onwards to the intimidating Blackness Castle, which doubled as Fort William in the programme. It was here that Jamie was flogged to within an inch of his life. Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, is next—this was Wentworth Prison, where a very unpleasant scene was filmed.

A wee break from Outlander as we visit the stunning Kelpies… why? Because they are there! We leave the highlight of the day until the end: Castle Leoch—Doune Castle—ancestral home of Clan MacKenzie.

Day 2: The Palace of Versailles, and Beyond…

From our overnight stay in the quaint town of Callander, we journey north to Drummond Castle, whose lovely gardens were used to create the illusion of the Palace of Versailles.

It is now time for one of my favourite places on the tour, Tibbermore Church, where the witch trial took place (you can also stand in the dock, protesting your innocence as you reveal the devil’s mark!).

A drive through lovely farmland brings us to the medieval town of Falkland, which was Inverness in the show. See the B&B where Frank saw the ghost of Jamie—you can even have a coffee in the vase shop! Our final visit is Culross (Cranesmuir), where Claire was dragged through the streets and the village square where the young lad had his ear nailed to the pillory.

If you’re late or miss the tour, this will be treated as a no-show, and no refund will be provided. While our driver may decide how long to wait on the day, we must prioritise the experience for other excited travellers, ensuring delays don’t impact their tour.

When should I get to the departure point?

We advise arriving at the departure point 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Our guide may be ready early, giving us a head start to make the most of the day!
